Lots of work to be done this week

Denny’s Revenge has a lot of work to do tomorrow night just as Jay is getting ready to leave for his Vegas vacation. We have a pretty big list of songs that we’re going to be working on to add to our set list. Some of them we’ve been trying out over the last couple of weeks but we haven’t officially practiced them in a rehearsal setting. To give you an idea of some songs that you can hopefully expect to hear from us in the new future we have: “Tighten up”-The Black Keys, “Money”-Pink Floyd, “Ridin’ Solo”-Jason Derulo, “Little Lion Man”-Mumford and Sons, “Back in the U.S.S.R.”-The Beatles, “When the sun goes down”-Kenny Chesney (with Uncle Kracker), “I shot the Sherrif”-Bob Marley, and quite a few others.

We always enjoy learning new songs and the last few practices have been very productive with us to be able to nail down close to an entire set of songs in less than 2 hours. Not bad!! Here’s to another fun and productive practice.

The human spirit and music

As I was doing some homework tonight and trying to tighten up my guitar playing on some of our songs I came across a video on Youtube that really blew my mind and made me stop and think. You know how it is on Youtube. You’ll be looking up a video, for an example, on how to make a cake, and then that will lead to video recommendations by the band Cake, and then next thing you know you’re watching some weird video about some spoiled brat teenager freaking out because his mom canceled his World of Warcraft account (which will end up being featured on Tosh.0). Anyway……That’s neither here nor there.

I came across a video that demostrates just how much music can be a part of a person’s soul and the tenacity of the human spirit to keep doing the things that it wants to do. And at the very least, on a slightly more shallow level it’s a video of a guy who is one bad-ass feet-playing guitarist. Enjoy!

Mr. Wurth returns for a fun night at Aroma’s

Our bassist, Tom Wurth, will be returning to the band tomorrow night for our show at Aroma’s Cigar and Wine Bar tomorrow night. This will be his first show with us since his father passed away in a tragic motorcycle accident. We are thrilled to have Tom back in the band with us and looking forward to putting on a great show tomorrow night.

In the meantime, on a seperately unrelated note…Here’s something fun you may enjoy which will give you an idea of what I’ve been working on tonight.

Our new bassist Tom Wurth got news last week that his father had been involved in a motorcycle accident and rushed the hospital. His father was hit by another driver who didn’t see him coming and later passed away. This is a huge shock to Tom, his wife Sheri, his family, and his friends. As members of the band and friends of Tom we have also felt the shock of this terrible news. I know Tom and his family are all going through a hard time right now and our thoughts and prayers are with them.

We are still currently performing shows with a backup bassist named Preston. While Preston is a pretty awesome bassist himself, we are anxiously awaiting Tom’s return to Denny’s Revenge. In the meantime, we wish Tom and his family the best until he’s ready to return.

Tom is one B.A. bassist.

We’re starting off 2011 with some exciting news!

First of all, we have a great addition to the band. Tom Wurth is our next bassist. He is an experienced bassist who has spent time with several bands ranging from original recording bands to cover bands. He is a great fit for our group with a real feel for creating a tight groove for the band. We hope you’ll join us in welcoming Tom to into the fold.

We’re also branching out and booking shows at more venues like Caribbee Key, My Place Bar and Grill, Your Place Bar and Grill, and some others that will be announced soon. We’re adding lots of great songs to our set list very soon also. And we’re going to be doing a lot of viral marketing such as posting Youtube videos on our web page and continuing to spread the word about our Facebook and MySpace pages. This is my first attempt at putting together a blog. The various members of Denny’s Revenge will all be posting over here from time to time all kinds of useful (and maybe not so useful) information.
